The Uniform Recycling Project allowed companies and community groups to recycle and reuse their discontinued uniforms, preventing them from ending up in landfills.
Many companies provided uniforms for their staff, but when the uniforms were discontinued for security reasons, they did not want them to be re-worn. Instead of ending up in landfills, Kids Off The Kerb arranged for the uniforms to be securely shredded, and the material was reused where possible.
Companies that had participated in the project included several banks, insurance companies, government departments, and others. Kids Off The Kerb used the shredded material for punching bags, which were then redistributed to sports clubs and other groups assisting disadvantaged young people. A new social enterprise being explored for the shredded material was using it for futons and dog mats.
