The Uniform Recycling Project offers companies and community groups an opportunity to recycle and re-use their discontinued uniforms, preventing them from otherwise ending up in landfill.
Many companies provide uniforms for their staff, but when the uniforms are discontinued, for security reasons they do not want them re-worn. Rather than end up in landfill, Kids Off The Kerb arranges for the uniforms to be securely shredded and the material re-used where possible.
Companies who have participated in the project include several banks, insurance companies, government departments and others. Kids Off The Kerb has used the shredded material for punching bags which were then redistributed to sports clubs and other groups assisting disadvantaged young people. A new social enterprise currently being explored for the shredded material is using the material for futons and dog mats.
